Profile
East Bay Rowing Club is the home of community rowing on the Oakland Estuary. All are welcome, especially people with no rowing experience. Our commitment to Youth and Adult rowing goes deep, including financial support. We believe in coaching excellence and embrace all aspects of rowing, from learning to racing.
LEARN TO ROW
EBRC’s incredibly popular Learn To Row sessions introduce adults to rowing in a fun, on-the-water environment. Our coaches teach rowers technique, how boats work, what coxswains do, and the often hard-to-decipher language of our sport. Rowers will start in our stable barge and then move to real, race-ready 8+ person boats toward the end of the session. Some rowers may even spend time in a single. Most of EBRC’s adult rowers started in a Learn To Row, and this is the best way to learn what it’s all about. At the end of the session, rowers will have the opportunity to join the Masters Novice Program. No additional previous experience is needed. As with all EBRC programs, the Learn to Row Program is open to all gender identities.
Community Learn to Row
Are you interested in learning more about rowing but unsure if you want to commit to a full learn-to-row program? Our Community Introduction to Rowing class is a great place to start. It’s a two-hour class introducing you to boat handling skills and how to row on an erg. It will end on the water in the barge with an oar in your hands. It’s also FREE! If you’re over 18 and interested in registering for the program, please add your name and contact info to our waitlist, and we’ll let you know when our next session is scheduled.
MASTERS NOVICE PROGRAM
The Masters Novice Program is for adults newer to rowing or getting back into the sport and wanting to re-learn the fundamentals. The focus is on learning how to row in a fun, inclusive environment. Rowers learn the basics of technique and fitness and may have the opportunity to learn both sculling and sweep rowing. Rowers may also compete in in-house regattas. As with all EBRC programs, the Masters Novice Program is open to all gender identities.
MORNING MASTERS PROGRAM
The Morning Masters Program is for both recreational and competitive skilled rowers. The focus is determined largely by the rower and ranges from rowing with friends to preparing for regattas. Rowers in this program sharpen their technique and fitness in both scull and sweep. This program offers the chance to participate in local and regional regattas throughout the year and is one of EBRC’s largest and most popular Masters rowing programs. Previous rowing experience is required. To learn more, send an email to the membership. As with all EBRC programs, the Morning Masters Program is open to all gender identities.
