Profile
The Severn River Rugby Football Club was established over 40 years ago and includes Men’s 15’s, Men’s 7’s, Women’s 15’s, Women’s 7’s, Old Salts 15’s. Our clubs compete in the Mid Atlantic local area union and the Capital Geographic Union which extends from Pennsylvania to North Carolina and is a part of the USA Rugby Competitions Structure.
Fifteens, or union, is arguably the most widely known version of the game of rugby and is played in a competitions cycle from Fall to Spring culminating in a Regional and National Championship Tournament Series with knockout rounds that run from May through June. Severn River is a proud member of the USA Rugby 15’s community and has established itself as a long standing contender in the Mid Atlantic region and Nationwide.
Sevens, or 7 a side, has been most notably acquired as an Olympic sport at the 2016 Olympic games in Brazil and is played as a series of tournaments throughout the late spring and summer, culminating in a Regional and National Championship Tournament Series with knockout rounds that run from late July through August. Serving as both a way for our rugby players to continue to develop skills and fitness, as well as learn the strategy of a very different facet of the sport of rugby, Severn River provides both avenues of play for our sevens teams in the summer. We welcome college and developing players to join us for the summer season.
