KIRKWOOD SENIOR SOFTBALL
AGE 55 & OVER
KIRKWOOD PARK field 3
Kirkwood Senior Softball is a “pickup” league established in 1995 by the late CHARLIE KEHOE, in association with the Kirkwood Parks & Recreation Department. The league promotes the game of slowpitch softball in the Greater St. Louis area for men over 55 years of age, bringing together senior softball players to enjoy fun, fellowship and good health. The organization affords an opportunity for retirees to play softball during the day. Senior players show up at Kirkwood Park on Monday and Friday mornings at 8:30 for batting practice, stretching and warm-up, followed by a game. New teams are made up for each game. Senior rules have been adopted in an effort to avoid injury. Pinch runners are allowed for those who are unable to run the bases. Several players in their 80’s continue to participate.
Because we are a “PICKUP LEAGUE” with no set teams, there is no obligation for any player to show up every day. Some play regularly and some play only a few times a month. Players over age 55, of all abilities, are welcome.
There are no league fees or other charges for Kirkwood softball. The diamonds are made available at no cost by the Kirkwood Parks & Recreation Department. The organization is supported by donations by the players. Participants are encouraged to donate as they are able. Collection boxes can be located on the backstops during the games.
Although this is a senior softball league, NO SENIOR BATS such as the MIken Ultra II, Demarini Signature Senior, Combat Rocket Launcher or other SSUSA bats are approved for use at Kirkwood Park. All bats and softballs must be certified by USA Softball (formerly ASA).
If you feel that you might be interested in playing feel free to come out and play any Monday or Friday morning from April to October. If you are not certain, you may want to stop by and check us out to see if our game would suit your needs and skill level.
