Profile
We started as a small meetup group playing volleyball at Green Lake in Seattle. We called ourselves: Greenlake Sports: Coed Volleyball and Other Activities. When Fall came and the weather changed, we moved indoors and started a league which we just called: Greenlake Volleyball. After a few seasons, and a lot of growth, we realized that we needed to expand outside of the Green Lake area. We then decided to re-name ourselves: SideOut Seattle.
A core group of us friends starting organizing and renting spaces throughout Seattle. We found temporary homes during the winter at Kapka, Rainer, & Miller. That next summer we found what we thought would be our forever home at Wallingford playfield. That’s when we really grew as a community to expand beyond our initial 6-8 teams. We played at Wallingford for years and expanded there to two league nights and as much as a dozen teams each night. We eventually outgrew the space we thought we’d be at forever.
So now we have several fields, nights, and levels. We’ve expanded to tournaments that benefit our community. Raising money for our schools, non-profits, families in needs, future volleyball courts, and now families effected by the pandemic.
Through all this we remain a non-centralized, community ran organization. Different people are in charge every year. Different people help with different projects, tasks, or leadership roles every year. That’s what makes SideOut such a different organization than any other out there.
But, our core principals still stand true: High level play in a friendly atmosphere. Community ran, owned, and organized. We are SideOut Seattle.
Our motto: Where community meets competition
