Profile
An adult, co-ed, recreational, competitive hockey league designed for beginner and intermediate ice hockey players in NYC
The Division Ice Hockey League is an adult, co-ed, recreational, competitive ice hockey league that is designed for beginner and intermediate players and those who are too old, slow, and injured to compete at the lowest division levels of most adult hockey leagues around NYC. The league is called “Division 9” to distinguish it from the lowest levels of the adult recreational ice hockey leagues in and around NYC.
If you are able to skate with the players in any of the adult house leagues around NYC and score regularly or at will, this league is NOT for you.
The key to the D9 league is that the skill level range is regulated to maintain the league purpose, a place to play ice hockey for players who can not or are not yet ready to play in the house leagues around town. Players too skilled for the league’s intended skill level will be removed from the league.
Have you been playing in a league and are tired of having the puck taken away from you as soon as you get it on your stick? Tired of watching everyone else do all the skating and scoring? Ready to move on from learn-to-play clinics and open hockey? Then this league may be for you.
This is not open hockey and more than just a pickup game. There will be an official refereeing the game, a scorekeeper, league standings, playoffs, and stats.
Ethos
While this is a competitive league, it is understood that our game is recreational and played with an understanding that we all have to get up and go to work the next day. Player safety is of utmost importance. Aggressive, reckless, or intentionally harmful play will not be tolerated. Players who can not play competitively and also play respectfully will be removed from the league.
