Profile
The Hotlanta Softball League was founded in 1981 by the LGBTQ community of Atlanta that were looking for a safe place to play recreational softball. In the beginning, our league was a small with very few teams playing at Piedmont Park. Today, our league has grown to over 550 members making up between 30 – 35 teams. The Hotlanta Softball League, respectively called HSL, has grown exponentially since its humble beginnings. With the start of the 2021 season, our league will celebrate its 40th Anniversary!
The Hotlanta Softball League is an active member city in the Amateur Sports Alliance of North America, ASANA, and the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance, NAGAAA. Both ASANA and NAGAAA are non-profit organizations dedicated to the promotion of amateur athletics with a special emphasis on the participation of members from the LGBTQ Community. The Hotlanta Softball League ranks as one of the largest member cities within ASANA and NAGAAA.
Our Spring season runs from March to June with teams playing 9 weeks of play. There are six possible divisions of play in our spring season: A-Division, B-Division, C-Division, D- Division, E-Division and for a 2nd season we now have a Women’s Plus. Winners from the A, B, C, D, and E Divisions regular season advance to the NAGAAA Gay Softball World Series and ASANA Softball World Series representing the Hotlanta Softball League as “Team Atlanta”.
Additionally, teams from each of these divisions can earn additional spots in these World Series by competing in our postseason tournament, known as the Commissioner’s Cup. In 1998, the Hotlanta Softball League hosted the NAGAAA Gay Softball World Series!
In addition to our Spring and Fall Softball seasons, the Hotlanta Softball League also conducts a NAGAAA recognized annual Memorial Day Tournament, known as the Big Peach Softball Tournament. The Big Peach typically brings a large number of teams and close to 1,000 players from around the country for the two-day tournament. 2021 marks the 35th Anniversary of our fantastic tournament in Atlanta.
