Profile
The Las Vegas Gay Softball League was founded in 2009 by the Las Vegas Athletics Arts and Activities Foundation. The foundation was asked to assist the LGBTQ community members in starting a gay softball league. In the beginning, our league was a small league with four teams playing at Veterans Memorial Park; today, our league has grown to over 250 members making up between 20-25 teams. The Las Vegas Gay Softball League, respectively called LVGSL, has grown exponentially since our humble beginnings.
The Las Vegas Gay Softball League is an active member city in the Amateur Sports Alliance of North America, ASANA, and the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance, NAGAAA. Both ASANA and NAGAAA are non-profit organizations dedicated to the promotion of amateur athletics with a special emphasis on the participation of members from the LGBTQ Community.
We have two seasons of play, Spring and Fall. Our Spring season runs from February to May, with teams playing 10 weeks of play and 20 games. Our Fall season runs from September to December, playing 10 weeks of play and 20 games. There are seven distinct classes or levels of play in our spring and fall seasons: A Division, B Division, C Division, D Division, E Division, Women’s Upper Division, and Women’s Lower Division. These divisions relate to the competitive level of play or the skill level of the competitors, with the A Division being the most skilled and the E Division supporting more recreational levels of play. Winners from the A, B, C, D, and E-Divisions advance to the NAGAAA Gay Softball World Series and ASANA Softball World Series representing the Las Vegas Gay Softball League.
In addition to our Spring and Fall Softball seasons, the Las Vegas Gay Softball League also conducts a NAGAAA-recognized annual tournament each October, known as the Las Vegas Neon Classic. The Neon Classic typically brings up to 32 teams and close to 500 players from around the country for the two-day tournament. 2018 marked our inaugural tournament.
The Las Vegas Gay Softball League is governed by a seven-person Executive Board, the Coaches Delegation, and several Committees. If you are interested in getting involved with LVGSL, please contact one of our Executive Board members.
