ABOUT NASHVILLE ROLLER DERBY
BIOGRAPHY
Nashville Rollergirls were founded in 2006. In 2019 the league announced its rebrand as Nashville Roller Derby (NRD) to be more reflective of the core values to respect, recognize, and appreciate the diversity of the organization. NRD is committed to building a culture that is diverse, inclusive, and equitable both within our league and in the greater Nashville area. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to developing athletes in the amateur sport of women’s flat track roller derby, and are proud members of the WFTDA.
Nashville Roller Derby currently has two teams, the Music City All-Stars, our internationally ranked travel team, and the Music City Brawl Stars, who travel regionally. These two teams challenge our members to set goals for themselves and allow our members to develop a derby and life balance that works for them. Prior to earning a spot on these teams, interested individuals go through our Bootcamp program, which is open to all, no matter their previous skating experience.
JOIN US
If you think you have what it takes to join us, we have two questions for you:
Are you over the age of 18? Are you up for a challenge?
We are looking for people who want to dedicate themselves and their bodies to a fast-paced, high-impact, mentally challenging sport.
Previous skating experience is NOT required. Our trainers will teach you everything you need to know about skating and how to play roller derby.
We also welcome and train referees, non-skating officials, and volunteers to our league!
See you on the track!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Will I need to purchase skates, protective gear, helmets or pads?
During Bootcamp recruitment nights, we will provide loaner gear! This includes skates, pads, and helmets. If you need gear, please include that information when you reach out. A $40 deposit is required to take out gear and $20 will be returned when you bring the gear back. This equipment is available on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis and must be returned. The one piece of equipment we do not provide is a mouthguard.
Where can I purchase skates, protective gear, helmets or pads?
While you can find roller derby gear many places including online stores, we highly recommend visiting Asphalt Beach for all your gear needs. They can also help size you if you’re not sure what you need!
What is the cost of joining NRD?
There are no fees for Bootcamp recruitment nights or your first month as a Bootcamper. Bootcampers normally pay $40 a month in dues and NRD league members pay $45 a month.
But I don’t know how to skate! Can I join?
100% YES! Most of our skaters started from not knowing how to skate at all. Bootcamp is where we teach you how to skate and you can join on any Bootcamp recruitment night.
I currently/used to skate with another league. Can I join?
We take skaters who can pass minimum skills and have current WFTDA insurance on an ongoing basis! Reach out to athletics@nashvillerollerderby.com to inquire about transferring leagues.
