Profile
Currently the only softball league in San Diego County dedicated to promoting senior women to play softball and foster friendships. A one-of-a-kind league where women of all skill levels get together on Saturdays to play ball. Changing teams every season creates an atmosphere where camaraderie is part of the game. Join us Saturdays at Presidio Recreation Center, 2811 Jackson St., San Diego, CA 92110.
The idea for a Senior Women’s Softball League started in the fall of 2000. Approximately 20 senior women came together to form a team in order to enter the Senior Olympics in September of that year. Our win/loss record was not encouraging, but we had a wonderful time meeting and playing against other teams from California, Nevada and Arizona. However, it takes more than 20 women to form a league. So, through advertising and word of mouth, we finally had enough senior women to form 4 teams and the SDSWSL began its inaugural season in March of 2003. We have now grown to play 2 seasons per year with 6 or 7 teams each season, playing 3 games every Saturday at Presidio Field in Old Town.
Many senior women assume their playing days are over just because they haven’t been exposed to the game since high school or college. They enjoyed the game in those early years but doubt they have the ability to play after so much time has passed. NOT TRUE!! We may not be able to run as fast, catch as well, hit as hard or throw as far as we did in those “good old days”, but we manage to have a great time and we surprise ourselves on how fast the skills return! Undoubtedly, the most rewarding aspect of the SDSWSL is the camaraderie and friendships that have been formed which make Saturday a day of “fun and relaxation”.
