WELCOME TO ST. LOUIS ROWING CLUB
We are a year-round rowing program for youth and adults in the St. Louis area. Founded in 1875, we are among the most long-established and decorated rowing clubs in the Midwest. Here at SLRC, we have boats for people of all ages and skill levels. Whether you’re experienced or new to the sport, there’s room for you on our crew!
COMPETITIVE MASTERS
This program is for experienced sweep rowers who wish to race in regattas. Training is year-round, four days a week, and leads to racing at the regional and national level. SLRC Masters have captured numerous US Rowing National Championship medals and won at prestigious regattas including the Canadian Henley, the Head of the Schuylkill, The Head of the Charles, and The Head of the Hooch.
RECREATIONAL MASTERS
Not everyone who rows wants to race, and that’s okay! Our Recreational Masters Team is for experienced rowers who want to work out for fitness, community, and fun! Practices are year-round, four days a week. Members are welcome to attend as many or as few practices as they’d like. Workouts can be scaled to accommodate rowers of all different athletic abilities. If you want to row without the pressure of competing, this team is a great option.
SCULLING
We offer coached sculling practices for adults from late spring to early fall. These small boats are more likely to overturn than our sweep boats, so we only scull when it’s warm enough to go for an impromptu swim! Completing Adult Learn to Row is a requirement for those without prior experience. The rower is able to learn at their own pace, beginning in a stable beginner boat and graduating to a sleeker, faster boat when they are ready. Sculling is enjoyable recreationally and competitively. Some scullers love to race, while for others, it is simply a relaxing hobby.
ADULT LEARN TO ROW
We offer a 10-session Learn to Row course for adults in March, June, July, and August. It is the perfect introduction to the sport and is the first requirement for joining our Competitive Masters or Recreational Masters teams – unless you have prior rowing experience.
In Learn to Row, we’ll go over the basics of sweep rowing, safety, technique, terminology, equipment, and much more. We’ll begin on the indoor rowing machine, then progress onto the water. This is a unique opportunity to improve your health, make new friends, and spend quality time at beautiful Creve Coeur Lake. Once you have completed the Learn to Row program, you can become a member of our Adult Intermediate team, where you can continue to hone your rowing skills.
